Here is a list of events happening this month around Merced County. Run for the Fallen The 5th Annual Run for the Fallen, which honors U.S. military men and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, is scheduled for Aug. 23 in Merced’s Applegate Park, near 26th and M Streets. Registration is free and begins at 7 a.m. Participants can also register online at rftfmerced.eventbrite. The 4.2 mile run/walk begins near the park’s flagpole at 8. Rib cook-off A rib cook-off is scheduled to be held noon Aug. 16 at Club Mercedes, 569 W. Ninth St. in Merced. The event will include live music. Admission is $5, ages 21 and up only. The event is sponsored by Vern Warnke for Sheriff, Gateway Fire Equipment, Elterab No. 2 and Johnny Tacherra for Congress. 6th Annual Mog Jog The 6th Annual Mog Jog is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 16 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2916 McKee Road. Proceeds benefit the Brenda Mognis Memorial Scholarship Fund. Entry fees are: $20 pre-entry; $25 on-site; $50 family (up to four members, $5 each additional member). St. Anthony Preschool orientation St. Anthony Preschool will hold a parent orientation for all new families interested in enrolling their 2- to 5-year-old children in a Christian learning environment. The orientation will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the parish hall, 1801 Winton Way in Atwater. Parents will be introduced to policies and procedures and everyone will have the opportunity to tour the preschool. Students may stay and have lunch until the new morning dismissal time of 12:15 p.m. Parents must send ready-to-serve lunches with their child. Alliance for Health meeting The Central California Alliance for Health’s Member Services Advisory Group meeting will be 10-11:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at 530 W. 16th St. Suite B in Merced. Back to school drive Love Inc. is accepting school supply donations for K-12 children from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Central Presbyterian Church, 1920 Canal St., throughout August. Retired women of Merced College luncheon The Retired Women of Merced College will meet for their monthly luncheon at La Hacienda 2 at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 14.
