Here is a quick question for Yall: You get bit by your pet cat, dog, ferret, squirrel,etc., while playing, and it breaks the skin. What do you do? It is deep, and you wonder if it needs stitches. It happened 8 hours ago, and does not involve tendons or any major structures, 1/4 inch deep. You have no allergies. Your last tetanus was 6 years ago. You go to the ER. Here are your questions: 1. do you need a shot? Y/N 2. do you need antibiotics? Y/N 3. If so, what is the antibiotic of choice? a. a penicillin b. erythromycin c. Keflex 4. Should you agree to let the doc a. sew it up or b. glue it c. leave it open 5. It turns red the next day and swells. Should you be concerned? Y/N Should you worry about rabies? Y/N Remember that sometimes ER docs dont always know all of this stuff, lol. Extra credit: it was sewn up, and 3 days later it hurts, pus is draining, and it is more swollen and red.
