Here is more detail on the CDC report on antibiotic resistance and the farm connection. Cliff notes version: The CDC agrees that antibiotic use should be drastically reduced in farm animals. Obviously, there will be cases where they are needed, but so far, the use of antibiotics has been rampant in food animals = we eat antibiotics, the bacteria becomes resistant, and when we get sick, the antibiotics currently on the market are either less or completely ineffective = we may die from infections that were treatable with antibiotics in the last 60-70 years.... Sounds very dramatic and it is! I know, organic food is expensive, but petition your politicians, write , email, call --- talk to the manager in the supermarket where you buy your food: Voice your concerns and ask them to NOT buy food that was treated with growth hormones and antibiotics! Its important for all of us, or do you really want to be back in the area of pre-antibiotics, where patients die from appendicitis, pneumonia, a bad cut/injury, surgery?
