Here is our next Revelation Study: Revelation 12:7-12 Revelation 12:7 - Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. -We now see that after Satan has failed in the previous verses to devour Israel and the Messiah child that comes out of it, frustration sets in and Satan loses his cool an just flat out wages war on heaven. We here see a picture of how evil Satan actually is. It’s wrong for a burglar to try to rob a gas station but once he finds he is surrounded by police and is going to fail in his mission, he lays down his gun and surrenders quietly. But it’s just plain wicked and evil if once he knows that he’s caught he starts emptying his gun on everyone around and tries to take as many people down with him as he can. -Read Daniel 12:1 and Jude 1:9. Here and elsewhere in scripture we see Michael as the archangel and captain of the Lords legion of angels. His main purpose is to protect the nation of Israel. -Some see this war in heaven as happening before the beginnings of the earth when Satan initially revolts against God, but the key word in this verse is “Then” or also meaning afterwards. It comes after all the rise of the nation of Israel, after the birth, death, and resurrection of the Messiah, and after all that happens in previous verses. Revelation 12:8 - But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. -This is a huge verse of encouragement for all of God’s children. Satan may attack but he is not strong enough to with stand anyone fighting for good in the name of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!!! -We see here the final time Satan is allowed in heaven. Here is further proof that the previous war is yet to come. Read Job 1:6-12, 1 Kings 22:21, and Zechariah 3:1. He still today has access to the throne of God where he accuses us of our sins day and night, but thank God almighty He doesn’t listen because we are covered by the blood of the Lamb!!! Read Matthew 10:32 and 1 John 2:1. Revelation 12:9 - The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. -We move from a joyous verse to one that is full of dread and devastation. Satan will be cast out of heaven with his demonic angels and will wreak havoc on the people of the earth. Revelation 12:10 - Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. -The last verse maybe filled with horror and dread but this should not be so for the faithful in Christ. For the believer it should be just the opposite. It means our salvation and the kingdom of God is here and the authority and power of Jesus Christ was demonstrated in the banishment of Satan from the paradise of heaven. Revelation 12:11 - They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. -Why should this event be comforting? Read 1 Thessalonians 1:10. Because that power and authority is poured over us in the blood of the Lamb! Praise Jesus! -This verse also reiterates what the apostle Paul felt and what those that look forward to his coming should feel also. Read Philippians 1:21. Revelation 12:12 - Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short." -This verse reaffirms what we just learned and what we should feel all throughout our study and while we read this book. In order for Jesus to come again and for us to receive His full salvation, Satan must be cast out and these past events we learned about already and all future events that are to come in our study must happen. And when all of these events come about, it is a reminder that all of God’s promises are true and Jesus’ second coming is near! - But for the people who don’t know Him and trust in Him and follow Him, woe to these lost souls. The thief in the gas station has been surrounded and he will now try even harder to take as many people with him as he can. Do you know Him?
