Here is something that Ashley said this morning. (Sorry, a little introduction needed). But if you read through it you may learn something (I did!) We were listening to the radio this morning in the car and they were talking about this 9 year old boy who was not allowed at school with his My Little Pony backpack. The school said that it provokes bullying and bullying is not allowed at school. After a lot of media attention the boy was allowed to bring it. At the radio they asked: would you allow your child to take/wear something knowing he will be bullied, or would you have him leave it at home because you dont want your child to be bullied? Even though I always tell my kids to be who they are, I was leaning more towards the last one because I do not want to see my child being hurt. Well, Ashley told me, you should let him bring it because if you tell him not to, you tell him to be who someone else wants him to be. Now its about a backpack but what else does he need to change for someone else? He should be himself. You should teach him how to deal with bullies and not how to act to make the bullies happy I learned something today!
