Here is the April 2013 minutes for you to read. City of Byron Mayor and Council Minutes April 25, 2013 The City of Byron Mayor and Council met in Special Session in the Council Chambers of the Byron Municipal Complex. Mayor Larry Collins, Mayor Pro Tem Michael Chidester, Council Members James Richardson, Michael Chumbley, Mark Waters, and Farrell Bass were in attendance. City employees attending were City Clerk Telina Allred, City Administrator Derick Hayes, Fire Chief JD Mosby, Firefighter Kyle Murray, Firefighter Chaplain Dan Varga, Lt. Josh Riley, City Attorney Joan Harris and Police Chief Wesley Cannon. There were two (2) visitors at the meeting as well as a representative from Channel 41 news. Mayor Collins called the meeting to order at 4:30 PM, asked Father Daniel Varga to give the invocation, and led the audience in the pledge of allegiance. SAFER GRANT AWARD: Motion made by Michael Chumbley, seconded by Michael Chidester to give Chief JD Mosby the authority to accept the Byron Fire Department SAFER Grant Award in the amount of $494,172.00. Unanimous. Councilman Michael Chidester asked Chief Mosby about the pay rate for the new employees and was told that the new employee salaries would be comparable to but not more than an existing employee salary. DEPOT REPAIRS: Byron Area Historical Society President, Marj Liaguno, spoke with council about needed repairs to the Depot. She stated that the previous painting on the caboose needed to be touched up after it was run into by a car and that lettering work was still needed. The insurance company issued a check payable to the City of Byron for the damages from the accident in the amount of $6300.00. Ms. Liaguno stated that she would like to use that insurance money to pay for work that has been done so far and still needs finishing to the train depot and caboose such as deck repair and termite treatment as well as “point tuck” work that is needed on the brick at the Old Jail. Ms. Liaguno presented bids on the jobs needed and informed council on volunteers that have helped also. Ms. Liaguno further stated that the gas for the gas powered light at the caboose has been removed for safety reasons and it will be converted to electric at a later date. Motion made by Michael Chidester, seconded by Michael Chumbley to approve the BAHS proposal for repairs needed to the depot, caboose and old jail. Unanimous. CLOSED SESSION: At 4:43PM, motion was made by Michael Chumbley, seconded by Farrell Bass that Mayor and Council enter into closed session as allowed by O.C.G. A. 50-14-4 for the purpose of discussing pending litigation. MOTION APPROVED Those voting in favor of the motion for closure: Mayor Pro Tem Michael Chidester, Council Members Chumbley, Richardson, Bass, and Waters.
