Here, is the other video I shot of my Sweet Pack Leader. Spirit - TopicsExpress

Here, is the other video I shot of my Sweet Pack Leader. Spirit would be the type of dog easily trainable for movies. He is a natural ham and works a camera well. But alas, neither of us have an interest in Hollywood and so our videos are for fun only. Of course, a well trained animal should be the goal of every Dog Owner/Adopter. There is no magic needed. Simply time, repetition and consistency, coupled with love, firm direction, and a calm environment. Berni AndAaron got to see how you can take an untrained dog and train him quite well in only a weeks time, if you can secure the love and have them focus on you, their Pack Leader. In a busy Park, with a soccer team practicing, cyclists passing by, cars and people not too far away, I dropped Sierras leash, actually removed it entirely, and had her perform the same actions as I do here with Spirit, with the added action of switching paws to shake. She never took her focus off of me. Berni said it best, Its as if no one else was around. The goal of training in a home environment, is to be able to refine the dogs skills soooo well, that you could be in the middle of a busy street and that dog would listen to your commands. With Sierra, I saw a dog, so grateful of being free, that she was a perfect candidate to be a Pack Leader follower not leader and thus, highly trainable. Berni, having met the former Zukie, pre training, knew she was sweet, but jumpy and all over the place. The dog she reunited with yesterday, was a result of several hours of training, each day, and using neighbors and friends to go thru the motions of gaining her trust. Whereas, I typically would not take a dog off leash in a very public place until the 3rd or 4th week in my care, every so often, I rescue a dog that I know is easily trainable. Recently, Sierra, Roxy, Buttercup, Dexter, Reine and Annie were and are examples of such dogs. Every one unique. Every one responded well to a regimented, but very calm and loving amount of guidance. You will note, I never have to yell or strike a dog to get their attention. I use a leash, my body, my voice inflection, and either my own hands and voice or a ball, a toy or something they can focus on. All of my rescues and Pack and Fosters get treats just because. I believe in discipline done with love and proper direction. Gently yet methodically. Any dog can be trained. Once love and trust are secured, the rest falls into place.
