Heres a fabulous story we simply had to share with you! José Mujica is the President of Uruguay and has been since 2010. The press has labelled him The Worlds Poorest President, but as you are about to find out, but hes probably the Worlds Richest President… You see Mujica donates 90% of his monthly salary, equivalent to $12,000 (£7,500), to charities which benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs. Meaning his actual salary is in line with the average monthly income in Uruguay of $775 (£485). It is mandatory for officials in Uruguay to declare their wealth and his was $1,800 (£1,100), which, is the value of his 1987 Beetle - his only material possession of any real value. He lives with his wife at her very basic farm in the outskirts of Montevideo where they cultivate and sell chrysanthemums. He is quoted as saying “I’m called ‘the poorest president’, but I don’t feel poor. Poor people are those who only work to try to keep an expensive lifestyle, and always want more and more. This is a matter of freedom. If you don’t have many possessions then you don’t need to work all your life like a slave to sustain them, and therefore you have more time for yourself.” He doesnt sound like a politician to, what do you think?
