Heres a nice start to the week; Angela discusses her passion for and commitment to the role of Adriana Lecouvreur which she revives in Paris this June. This production was created for her by David McVicar and it perfectly fits her vision of the actresss life in that period, enabling her to fully commit to the role (which is why she is so fabulous in it, I shake like a leaf!) She loves that she actually gets to use the actors stage but regrets that Cilea did not leave the monologue music free and I totally agree with her. However she delivers it so intensely I didnt even notice the accompanying music and Ive seen her do it many times. So brava Angela! I also agree with her about the hyper modern productions which time out so quickly (I saw a singer standing in a wash basin at the opera recently and I thought really???? Why??) But where I have to disagree with her is when she says she is not a feminist. I know English is about her fourth language and stuff gets lost in translation but I think shes absolutely a feminist! She stands her ground with directors, producers and conductors (99% male) when it comes to her artistic interpretation. These men are high profile, often intimidating and formidable characters! She follows through too. A woman who demands what she needs in the workplace in order to achieve the very best of what she does? Angela darling youre my feminist hero! (Heroine) And yet another reason Im always Adoring Angela Gheorghiu. Happy Monday Adorees! youtu.be/uoIcFRbcYVg
