Hey all, Myself and my wife Kelly are trying to get our summer school project off the ground. Something that has never been done in the area before but getting funding for the arts in Ireland is proving difficult this year because funding for the arts seems to be down, but we feel that our project is such an important one that we would reach out to the community for help. So we set up a kickstarter page. We have 25 days left to raise the funds, click below to see the details. Myself and Kelly have taught at so many summer schools and see the benefit it has to the attending students as well as the locality(as im sure 90 percent of you have seen as well). So here we are trying a new route to get this off the ground! All help, no matter how big or small, will be hugely appreciated! If successful we will be making this an annual summer event that will grow alongside with the tradition. We will be including Master Tutors, of the highest standard, on all instruments as well as concerts, sessions, Irish classes and lectures throughout the week! We know how hard it is to get a project like this off the ground and that the first year is always the hardest, that is why we are reaching out! Located in the west of Ireland, in the heart of the Connemara gaeltacht, Co. Galway, Spiddal has always been a place that artists come to enjoy the serenity/scenery and create. It has been inspirational to so many artists, singers, musicians and writers through the years, with super groups included DeDannan and The Waterboys, to name just a few. These two groups spent their early years around the village practicing, performing and honing their crafts, Spiddal inspired them to do great things. This is something that we want to expose to the traditional enthusiasts of today. Not unlike DeDannan and The Waterboys, we want to couple the great talents of our generation with the inspirational values and influence of the area. Whether it be the interaction between the teachers and students, the pub sessions, the lectures or just audience participation, our week will provide culture, knowledge and memories that will inspire and last a life time! Spiddal remains steeped in culture today, producing great young talent and a community that has evolved with a respect for the culture that can be matched only in places such as Miltown Malbay, where The Wille Clancy Summer School takes place. We are lucky enough to be involved in The Willie Clancy Week and other summer/winter schools and see the benefit it has on the community, which makes us even more excited about our project and the longevity of it. Another bonus, is that Spiddal is a destination that people all over the world come to enjoy. They get enveloped by the sea side village and engrossed in all of the activities it has to offer. This includes all of the cultural aspects such as: music, song, dance, language but it also includes local amenities such as: beaches, hill walking, lovely landscapes, views of Clare and the Aran Islands, fishing, golf, great food, nightly entertainment and much much more. Situated 15 minutes from Galway city and 10 minutes from your local golf course, boasting long days staying bright till 11pm at night, you couldnt find a better place to spend a week.
