Hey everyone. Since this is a community that loves freedom of movement, and supports each other so well, I figured this would be a good place to post. My friend is a volunteer for Special Olympics and they need more coaches or their athletes CANNOT compete. I believe it is Sat mornings from like 9-11. Here is the email: Hi All-I learned today that some of you did not receive this last week so I am re-sending. Donna August 2014 Dear Volunteers: This year Westside Special Olympics/SMARS Fall Programs will all begin on September 13th. WSO/SMARS will be offering soccer, tennis and bowling. Because all the programs will be held on Saturday and we are volunteer-driven, we ask that you think carefully and only sign up for the sport you know you can commit to. Like the athletes who will only be able to sign up for one sports program, we urge you to select and commit to one sport because they all overlap and are on the same day. We are required to have a 4 to 1 ratio of athletes to coaches, so the number of athletes we allow into our programs is directly tied to the number of volunteers who sign up. Click here for the details for each sport we are offering. Certification: Beginning this fall, SOSC our governing body is enforcing mandatory coach’s certification. As part of this enforcement, only certified coaches will be allowed to chaperone/coach at Special Olympics events. So if we are going to a competition and the coaches aren’t certified, our team will be unable to attend. Click here to learn more about coach education training. To make this easier for our volunteers, Westside is working with SOSC to hold certification training for each of the fall sports. Look for details in the coming weeks. Soccer Volunteers - If you attended the SOSC soccer coaches training in 2013, please let us know so we can confirm your certification with the Chapter office. Sign Up Forms: There are two ways for you to sign up. You can click here and print out the forms. Then complete them and either fax or scan and email them back to us. Or you can click here and complete the word document; save the completed forms to your desktop and then email them back to us at wsovolreplies@aol. That’s all for now. Please complete your forms and send them back now. If you have any additional questions, please give either Silvia Quintana or myself a call at 310-458-8237.
