Hey yall! Just a quick Public Service Announcement for all my Facebook friends and family today: not everything your friends post or share on Facebook is true! That is right, let me repeat: not everything on Facebook (and the Internet) that gets shared to you is true. Some of my favorite anti-hoax websites are snopes (I have depended on this one for almost fifteen years; its got some great info out there on really old hoaxes we remember as kids, including the Richard Gere Gerbil hoax, the Liz Claiborne is a Satanist hoax, the list goes on) and good old Wikipedia. But, since snopes and Wikipedia are also not 100% accurate or trustworthy (nothing is, actually), I ask myself when I am considering facts that are presented to me: is this an attempt to manipulate popular opinion, instigate anger or a visceral emotional reaction, smear a certain group, or make me buy something (or NOT buy something)?
