Hi! Thank you for adding me to your group. My King Charles, Chip, - TopicsExpress

Hi! Thank you for adding me to your group. My King Charles, Chip, is 7 1/2 years old. He began showing symptoms of MegaE two years ago but was only recently diagnosed this winter after extensive testing at UC Davis (endoscopy, barium swallow testing, neurological testing, X-rays, muscle biopsies, blood tests, feeding tube placement) it has certainly been a progressive disease in his case that was initially misdiagnosed as inflammatory disease. He was in the hospital for a week afterwards with aspiration pnuemonia and it was a good two months before he began to show some signs of recovery. He has been taking Baytril everyday since the March visit for AP. Adding Prilosec three times a day is what saved his life.... The doctors were recommending I put him Down in May but we added in the Prilosec as a last resort... I wish we had been aware of this site earlier as I now see there are several additional medications that may have helped him to recover more quickly. He is still somewhat limited in his exercise as he begins to foam if he over exerts himself and I am afraid of an AP recurrence, but he is so much happier and alert now, practically himself again. Chip continues to have rough nights of hacking and regurgitation of phlegm, I am going to try the procollar today. Thank you for this recommendation! I would also like him to put on some weight. At his prime, he was a chubby 33 lbs, now a very skinny 20 lbs. do you have any recommendations on how I can put some weight on him? He has three 60ml syringes of royal canin lo fat gastrointestinal pureed canned food/3x day, 1 60 ml syringe ensure complete 3x/day, 2 60 ml syringes of water 3x/day, and his meds (Baytril and Prilosec, now adding in Zantac too)
