Hi all Last week on Thursday night we had an awful night thanks - TopicsExpress

Hi all Last week on Thursday night we had an awful night thanks to a wild PNG family who lives next door and apparently they party every 2 weeks when they get paid and then piss it up against the wall. They were playing loud music, screaming at the top of their lungs and having fights etc from midnight to the following day at 4pm – 16 hrs, bloody ridiculous. I feel sorry for his wife and child who I constantly hear crying. But u can’t call the cops (not that they would come anyway) or say anything cause u can get killed so we have to suck it up. Mind you Gerhard said we can stay at his place at any time, so if they really do this every two weeks then we’ll just stay at his place. It is mainly quiet though. We are getting a new compound built which should take around a year so hopefully we won’t have a loud family next door to that one. It’s not as if it doesn’t happen in Australia, just never where we lived. All the 4WD people we know would have loved the trip we did to Bulolo on the long weekend, it would have been rated as intermediate, mind you we saw some awesome terraine that modified vehicles would have loved but even in Luke’s modified work vehicle here we cant do anything cause there is no recovery gear of any kind, other than the nationals in the bush that come out of nowhere - literally. It was great cause you are literally 4wdriving from Lae all the way to wherever you need to get to. The club is called the Explorers and it is an appropriate name. Everyone has 4WDrives but they are all predominantly standard and owned by everyone’s bosses so we don’t even have to pay for fuel. The roads are really bad and you need 4wd to get around anywhere cause a normal car would simply not last. To give you an example, someone bought a new GU Patrol 50,000klms ago and the entire suspension is clapped out already and that’s just from driving on the main road every day of maybe only a few klms a da y – seriously! Everyone has to get their suspension redone regularly. The pot holes are ludicrous and the traffic jams are crazy. We left Lae at 1pm on Saturday afternoon in a convoy of 12 vehicles and it took us 2 hrs to get to Bulolo Pine Rivers Resort which is 100klms from Lae and that’s supposed to be a highway - NOT. The following day we drove the intermediate track for 1.5hrs to get to the top of mountain where the trek began. 2hrs later we reached the bomber plane from WWII, here’s a link to give further info if anyone is interested pacificwrecks/aircraft/b-17/41-9234.html The trek was a killer and was very slippery, but problem was that once we got to the bomber we had to go back, so we had lunch and stocked up on protein and then headed back. I will email some pictures next week. But as always some people don’t understand what extreme 4wdriving is about and they just cannot grasp the concept especially here cause there is nothing here for anyone to be able to do it anyway. One guy reckons it would be easy cause you have power steering and he was in the army and you don’t need modifications – yarda yarda yarda. Anyway I guess that’s just the way it goes, but one day he’ll see my footage on utube as I emailed it to him, but then, maybe he won’t look at it cause he probably thinks I’m just a sheila. Oh well, care factor ‘0’, I only talk about it cause I love it and miss it terribly. My truck would kick arse over here - that’s for sure. The electricity here is so cheap and its the only thing we have to pay for other than food, phone and internet. I worked out it will probably only cost us say $100 a month. The local produce here is totally organic and as an example, we pay 30c for an entire large lettuce. All meat is way cheaper than at home too, at least half price. Its things totally out of the ordinary here that you pay extra for, like ice-cream and then most of the time its been defrosted and refrozen - yuk. I’m even looking forward to going to the second-hand clothes store again as I want more clothes for here and last time it cost me $10 for a pair of shoes, a lovely bikini, shorts, shirt, and 2 dresses and they’re all in really good condition. I hope to find a job soon. I have been emailing my resume everywhere and especially to people we have been meeting. We have met sooooo many people here that I’ve been writing down their names and it has definitely helped. Love and miss you all heaps.
