Hi everyone, Just as I’ve finished - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone, Just as I’ve finished planting and potting all my summer dormant bulbs, the liliums are demanding to be dug up before they start growing again. So this month I have a few bare rooted, species and hybrid Lilies for sale as well as some Galtonia candicans, which is a lovely tall summer flowering bulb with creamy/green, scented flowers on spikes up to 2m. a little like a tuberose. The first of the Snowdrops (Galanthus elcatus) are starting to flower. They can reach a height of 15-30cm and multiply at the same rate as most daffodils, which means you can enjoy a reasonably impressive clump in only a few short years. Some of the pots I have are already dividing, I also have a shorter variety still a few weeks from flowering. Gladiolus dalenii is flowering at the moment as well. This species glady can flower from mid autumn to late winter, depending on how cold it is, (this one doesn’t like the frost) and is believed to be one of the progenitors of the modern hybrid gladiolus. It’s colour can vary, but the form I have is bright orange with a yellow throat on spikes that can reach over 2m. I will bring a flower from my garden to the markets as the potted ones aren’t flowering yet. There are also a small number of Anemone blanda just starting to colour as well. A. blanda is a small growing woodland anemone to only 10cm or so. It has gorgeous blue star flowers and is great in a pot or in a rock garden under a deciduous tree. I’ll be bringing some more bare rooted plants to the markets this month, including Sedum ‘Autumn joy’, oriental poppy ‘Raspberry Queen’ and plenty of Hellebores in creamy yellow, dark burgundy and maybe a few double whites and purples. And last of all, for those trying to fill a gap quickly, I have a number of Buddleja davidii in 8inch pots for $10 each or 3 for$20. These plants given reasonable growing conditions should get to around 3m by this time next year. This months markets- Woodend farmers market 6th July Castlemaine farmers market 7th July Kyneton farmers market 13th July Trentham market 20th July Lancefield farmers market 27th July You can also now visit me virtually on facebook, or in reality at the nursery.
