Hi to the group. Just thought I would introduce myself to you, I know some people on the group but a lot would not know me. With my wife Marilyn we own Bellawongarah Arabians at Paradise in Tasmania. My interest in Arabian horses was born at Hawkesbury Ag College when I was studying there in mid-60s. I cannot remember any names of the horses that were there then but did enjoy riding them on weekends. I was studying Dairy Technology and used to trade weekend work with Ag students just to ride the horses. We began our stud in 1989 with the mating of two mares to Riaal (iiu UK) We leased a pure mare (Arkab Camilla) and the resultant foal a colt(Bellawongarah Ibn Riaal+CH) became our foundation stallion. Matey as he is known became my endurance mount for almost ten years. Our first pure bred mare was Sweet Afton. The matings of Sweet Afton and Matey produced five colts two of which have been exported to UAE, a third Bellawongarah Beau our current senior stallion has excelled in the show ring (led & ridden) and is my current endurance mount. In 2004 we purchased Sweet Aftons daughter Nihal Annabella from Nicole Emanuel. We mated Bella to SnowNFire before she came to Tassie. The resultant foal Bellawongarah Sterling Silver now 3 is our junior sire and has swept all before him in the show ring. At the TCAG Show in early February he was awarded three supreme awards including Supreme Pure Bred exhibit in the led classes. Bellawongarah Stirling Silver is the chestnut shown below with handler Jane Stratton. Bellawongarah Beau is the bay(at this show TasARABS all breeds in 2010 Beau was awarded Grand Supreme of show in both halter and ridden. Beau has been a solid performer in the show ring both led and ridden(handled by Christine Bellette) Our aim is to produce good strong riding horses capable of carrying H/W riders in endurance but still have the type and presence to do well in the show ring. Most of our horses are high % Crabbet with some Spanish influence through Gual Diman.
