Hillary Lister is good people. She helped me when I had tremendous back pain. I couldnt walk more than a few steps a year ago today and I was bent over almost double. I couldnt sleep and sat on the edge of my bed at night and tried to sleep sitting up. As I said, Hillary helped me. Im almost tempted to go up to film this party. Harry Brown has been holding music and marijuana liberation festivals at his farm on Abijah Hill since the first Hempstock in 1991. The Harvest Ball brings together music, visual arts, fire dancing, political action, and educational workshops on herbal healing with camping in the foothills of Western Maine. Friday night on October 3 showcases two bands that have been generating major followings on festival and concert circuits across the country: - Pigeons Playing Ping Pong brings their unique brand of Baltimore psychedelic funk to Maine - Larry and His Flask, blending old time country with punk, visit from Oregon, back from touring with the Dropkick Murphy’s. Saturday, October 4, brings together jazz, bluegrass, and rock and roll, featuring: - John Sinclair, the Detroit poet, one-time manager of the band MC5, and longtime marijuana legalization activist, joins up with Portland Jazz duo the Hardy Brothers for a one-of-a-kind performance. _Tania Asili y la Banda Rebelde, combines powerful vocals with an energetic fusion of Afro-Latin, reggae and rock. The six-piece ensemble from Albany, NY, led by Puerto Rican vocalist Taina Asili, offer a sound that spans continents, exuding strength of Spirit, inspiring audiences to dance to the movement of rebellion. - Holy Ghost Tent Revival brings a fast-paced, horn-driven rock and roll dance experience from North Carolina, following the September release of their third full-length studio album, Right State of Mind. Homegrown herbal education will be in the spotlight all weekend with workshops on making herbal medicine, and educational presentations by two Maine-based, internationally-known natural health practitioners, medical marijuana advocate Dr. Dustin Sulak and herbalist Gail Edwards. On Sunday, the music and workshops continue. Sunday features Georgetown, Maine folk/blue singer Lauren Crosby, gracing the Hill with original music that recently won her trip to record at Bob Weirs TRI Studio. A community jam with Maine singer-songwriter Amandalyn Kaulback. Closing out Maines own Bob Band finishes the festival with a tribute to Bob Dylan. Sunday is a bargain for all, with admission by donation only, and all proceeds going to support local nonprofit groups.
