Historical facts about the Denver District Attorneys office: On March 14, 1969, Dr. Thomas Riha, a professor of Russian history at Colorado University, vanished from his home in Boulder. Gloria Tannenbaum was the lead suspect in Rihas disappearance. She was also suspected of murdering her friends Gustav Ingwerson and Barbara Egbert, in Denver. Both Ingwerson and Egbert died of potassium cyanide poisoning. During a search of Tannenbaums home, Denver police found Rihas passport and drivers license and a pound of potassium cyanide. There was insufficient evidence for indictment on the murders but Denver District Attorney Mike Mckevitt (1957-1971) charged Tannenbaum with forging Ingwersons will which named her as the sole beneficiary. The Boulder District Attorney charged her with forging the deed of trust on the sale of Rhitas home. Tannenbaum was found not guilty by reason of insanity in both jurisdictions and she committed suicide by ingesting potassium cyanide at the state mental hospital in Pueblo.
