Hmm. 50 years ago? Wo! Does anyone realize how much history has been made in the last 50 years? For those who do not know, when the movie Daniel Boone movie came out through Walt Disney, there were Daniel Boone toy sets with coonskin caps, rifles, muskets, knives, Indian lances, you name it, if it was in the movie, they made a toy of it. 50 years later, people would be protesting in front of any store that sold any of these items, and to top it off, most of us took some of those items to school, just to prove we had the toys. If you are reading this, think of the time you were about to turn 9 years old, and think about the things that are different now? Try to name a few things that you can think of, that are different now. Imagine how different it will be for your grandchildren? We hear all the time where a child is being kicked out of school for making a gun sign with their hands, chewing a cookie into the shape of a gun and even for having taken a toy soldier rifle to school. In my day, 50 years ago, the problems we had as kids were different, but we were taught respect for others. We knew the toys we played with would not hurt anyone, but we were taught proper gun safety rules with these toy guns. For one, never(!) point any gun at anyone, for any reason, except in self defense, never. Why? Because a toy bb gun, that that child would most likely have later, could do some kind of damage, to someone, if not properly handled. Now? 50 years later? Very few schools teach gun safety, and respect to others, and not enough about it is taught at home. Also, there is so much killing in movies and video games, without parental discussion on the fact that even though this is a game, real people using real guns can kill. Our children and grandchildren still need to be taught that if the one holding the gun is not careful and respectful to others of the guns ability to protect us, that the person holding that that gun can accidentally do harm to someone if it is not handled properly. 50 years ago? 1964? 50 years from today? 2064. I wonder what will be different? Guns will still be around, but who will actually be able to own one?
