Hmm Ill be the first to agree that we are saved by grace, not by our own works. But thats just step one...Thats just the beginning. We have access to salvation because of Christs shed blood. I dont think that any Christian would argue with that. But theres a reason why James said that faith without works is dead. You will be judged according to your works...you are responsible for any unrepentant sins that you have committed. As Jesus said in regard to the Law, Whosoever therefore shall break the least of these commandments, and shall teach men to do so, will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven (Matt 5:19) That is evident by what is said at Christs return, at the marriage supper for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the RIGHTEOUSNESS of the saints (Rev 19:7-8) And again, (Rev 6:9-11) we see the souls of those slain for THEIR TESTIMONY are given white robes, and told to rest for a little season, until the rest of their fellow servants, and their brethren that will be killed, comes to pass. Quite a bit of works involved After all, if we are told that we can know someone by their fruit (Matt 7:20) what does that mean?....dont you have to have some kind of works, whether good, or bad, to produce fruit? and if its true that..Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire (Matt 7:19)...wouldnt the reverse be true?.....and dont we have to call that works? (again....we arent even having this discussion without Christs shed blood....but nonetheless...this is a condition that exists, even after we have come to believe in Christs sacrifice, and that he is the only begotten Son of God) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Matt 7:21-27)
