Hmmm. Ive long been a supporter of the Philosophical Gourmet - TopicsExpress

Hmmm. Ive long been a supporter of the Philosophical Gourmet Report -- for reasons that are unchanged since I explained them in a defense of the PGR 13 years ago (posted here: pantheon.yale.edu/~kd47/rankings.html#C ). The only change is that my support is now stronger, since the way the Report is produced has been significantly improved since then. I would not join any effort to bring down the Report -- though I *would* encourage anyone who wants to to produce a good rival to it. For me, this has little to do with any spats between Brian and other philosophers. In fact, given our personalities (we can both feel very strongly about certain issues in the profession that pop up from time to time), Ive always thought it possible that Brian and I might get involved in some nasty fight some day, and Ive always supposed that Id continue to support the Report if that should ever happen (supposing, of course, that the Report continued to be supportable). As it happens, no such spat ever occurred. But it sounds like the Report might cease to be produced if No wins this poll. I would take this to be a very bad development for prospective graduate students in philosophy. So I voted Yes. (I suppose that I should disclose here that I am on the Editorial Board of the Report, and I should also let folks know that Brian is my fb friend, and so may well see this [& if you do check in, Brian, let me take this chance to urge you not to stop the Report!] -- though that would have been possible even if he werent my fb friend, since my posts are public.) leiterreports.typepad/blog/2014/09/cyber-smear.html
