Homily for 21 October 2013 Lk 12:13-21 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Good morning to all of you. Today is Monday of the Twenty-nine week of the Ordinary Time in the Roman Catholic Calender. I would like to share about the danger of greed for our lives. Introduction: I will talk about the danger of greed for our lives based on today Gospel from the Gospel of Luke 12:13-21. Jesus said to his people, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of Greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessionsion.” Lk 12:15 See: definition of greed – greed means excessive desire for wealth and possession. It means that we want to have more than enough. We want to enjoy more than our needs. We desire what we cannot belong to it. Situation of the world : The world is changing. We are now in the postmodern time. It means that the world is developing through education, both Arts, Science and Technologies. 10% of the government leaders of the countries of the world become richer in Money, possessions and in material things. The business men and women become richer through their products. They expose their products to many countries. They distribute their products and material things to the people with double profits. The more they receive profits, the more they want profits. Therefore, the poor people remain poor, the rich people become richer than before. The rich people have no place to put their money and things but they keep on exploiting the poor people, the outcast and downtrodden people because of their greed. Jude: Hence, Jesus used this parable to remind the rich people, Jesus told them a parable, saying, The land of a rich man was very productive. 17 And he began reasoning to himself, saying, What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops? 18 Then he said, This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry. But God said to him, You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared? Act: This parable is not only for the rich people but it is for all of us to remind ourselves that the worldly things, wealth and possession and money are temporary. They are just helping us to achieve our goals, visions and mission. Our money and material things are not only for us but to share with other people, friends, relatives and those who most need our support and help especially for the poorest people of the world. St.Francis of Assisi Said that if you have clothes or things which you do not need or using it, it is belongs to the poor, you are stealing from the poor. St.Francis Xavier said for what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but lose their life. Mt 16:26 Conclusion: We are the image of God. We belong to God. Our home is in God. Our vision is to be with the Trium God. Our mission is to bring the Kingdom of God here on earth. Therefore, Let us treasure our times, talents, ability, things and money in heaven, in God. Let us ask ourselves today, how much I spend my times, my talents, and things and money for other, for the poor and for God? If the Lord asks us to go to Heaven now, are we ready to go with him joyfully and happily?
