Honestly, once the dust of elections settle down. One big thing - TopicsExpress

Honestly, once the dust of elections settle down. One big thing that will need be discussed is the bursting of Muslim Votebank myth. For far too long, Muslims in India have been portrayed as a homogeneous lot that votes enblock on just one issue, namely of religion. Perpetrated by slimy politicians, the votebank is thought to be malleable and pliable, that can be easily hoodwinked by throwing a few crumbs, say like a carrot of Sachar Committee, or promises of reservations. Some mullahs or leaders will pass on a Fatwa, and presto the whole community is now served on a platter ready to savored. The implication of this is, that a party or a group is not sure of their votes, can then decide to completely avoid them altogether. Thus, you have the BJP that is a national party, and going to win, with so few Muslim representation. I mean, one can count the Muslim candidates on the fingertips. The irony of this is, the grouping that used them as a votebank, never did anything good (because it was merely exploiting them) and now there must be a feeling of alienation because of a current dispensation. Methinks the Muslims of India must do a deeper introspection, and work on changing this perception about a rudimentary archaic block that can be beguiled fairly easy. An Indian Muslims expectations should not be any different from that of an Indian Hindu. And this is what needs to projected. Just like no one is sure of how a Hindu will vote, or say even a Sikh (imagine Akali, Congress, BJP or AAP) so, must the Muslims vote be assimilated in the whole mass. Similarly, no single Hindu leader has been perceived to hold sway over the voters, so should be the case with Muslims. It is indeed sad, that today, a significant portion of Indians must be wary and apprehensive about the future and that can never be a good thing. Just hope that things change and soon....
