How To Respond To A Crisis 3: When you find yourself in the midst of a high-impact crisis or life-changing event, take some time to figure out exactly what is happening and set yourself up with some solutions. Here are 10 steps to help you analyze what went wrong and come up with better ways to respond to, or even solve, the crisis? 1. Exactly what happened? Think about the story behind the event. 2. Why did this happen? Could you have actually prevented it? 3. Consider your emotional response. answer the following with a yes or no: - Is it over? - Can i live with it? - Is it out of my hands? - Can i ignore it? If you answered yes to these questions, youre ready to move on. dont worry if you answer no to any right now. keep working through the other steps to regain control. 4. Think about what you stand to lose. it helps to know the impact in real terms. 5. What is the opportunity here? loss can be fertile ground to plant the seeds of change. 6. Focus on the things you can control, and visualize your desired outcome. 7. Evaluate alternative ways to deal with this event, carefully weigh the pros and cons, then pick the solution you feel is best. often, it will be the one you think of first after having slept on the problem. 8. Write out what you want to have happen as well as your action plan for dealing with this particular life-changeing event. 9. Now, take quick, decisive action. even the smallest step moves you forward. try completing short-term key tasks you can accomplish quickly and feel good about. even if its as simply as clearing off your desk, writing the first sentence of a report, or making one phone call, taking small steps will build momentum toward the future. it will remind you that youre not helpless, and things are moving in the right direction. 10. If you still feel out of balance, repeat this process, or ask a friend or colleague for their insight and support. As in all aspects of life, having a process makes coping with crisis more manageable. nothing can undo thes events, but you can always control your response. Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach. Thanks @ Boma Ollor and have a wonderful weekend friends.
