How big a part does Santa play in you familys Christmas celebrations? I imagine its different all around the world? **please note, this is not a judgement on anyones choices or traditions, just an observation and journal of our own decisions** Lets face it, around this time of year (here in Australia) the big, bearded fella in the red suit is quite unavoidable. Every second shop has a Santa to visit, hes in every window, on every Christmas tv show, in pictures on cards and store brochures...and so on.....and I really dont mind too much. I love Christmas!! I wish it wasnt so commercialized, but it is what it is! Santa with those chubby, blushed cheeks and big round tummy....all that ho ho ho and jolliness is a part of Christmas, but to us, not the biggest part. Santa gives one small gift to our child. Its not about who gets the credit for the gifts in our house, but it most certainly important that our child learns the joys and pleasures of giving and gratitude during it all. Those big smiled, bright eyed, full bodied hugs that warm the soul, they are not for Santa, they are for parents and siblings and Uncles, Aunts and friends....all those people who are real and that put the time and effort into our childs life, not an imaginary man hell likely only believe in for a couple more years....or hopefully a bit longer. I love Christmas!!.....and Santa is a most wonderful part of the Christmas journey, but hes a small part of a big picture.....in our house.
