How is it right that anyone can take a gun and shoot foxes for any reason in London? goo.gl/feiGya This article based on an American views in the New York Times of foxes being shot in London exposes something quite disturbing. It shows that anyone who can acquire a gun can set themselves up as so called pest controller. No training and no formal requirements under law are appear needed to blast our wildlife to death. The only questions we see raised are not is it right but to what calibre bullet and gun to use. With the horrid word used over and over again to justify such cruelty as foxes are classed as vermin so in affect do as you like. Can there be a more absurd situation when any person can wander into parts of London and shoot a gun at what they think is a fox moving? The only requirement apparently being not to shoot near a road! Now we reject fully the notion that this is right and reject the idea that foxes should ever be classed as vermin anywhere. They are living creatures who have adapted to live in Urban areas and deserve the same protections as all wildlife. A few knocked over bins and noise from mating at night should never equate to death. The endless demonising of foxes in parts of the media which claim one thing or another are always lacking in one vital ingredient, proof! When so many residents of London have no problem living aside foxes. How can be it be legal for anyone to get a gun and blast away! Shooting Foxes will not stop foxes in your Garden. All it does is leave a territory open which will be filled again in as little as four days. Studies have proven that. Nobody should also have any legitimate claim to be a pest controller when they have had no training and no qualifications for even the basics. Even putting aside that there are always, always humane alternatives to killing animal for the moment. We are talking about people taking a loaded rifle and aiming it at whatever they assume is a fox in the most densely populated area of Britain? Are we missing something here? A person with a gun shooting in a densely populated area of people. On that reason alone you would think the Police might object and so should Parliament. Having a gun licence is not the same as saying that person is safe to shoot it! It is not up to individuals for whatever reason to decide which wildlife lives or dies. Society has made its view clear when it comes to killing foxes. They do not support it and do not like it. So we fail to see how anyone has any legitimate right to carry on as they please. The law must be changed so some common sense is brought in. At the very least so called pest controllers must all be licensed and trained so they can be held accountable for their actions. Individuals in London should have no access to any guns other that those in official shooting clubs. IE for Clay Pigeon. They same could be considered for the rest of the county. There has to be greater consideration to the welfare of foxes provided and the terminology of calling them vermin must go. Giving that humane alternatives are more effective at deterring foxes it shooting them should become a thing of the past. No longer should it be accepted that anyone has a right to kill them. Just because somebody thought foxes were a pest decades ago it does not mean that thinking need remain. Most of that viewpoint of a pest is based on the vested interest of hunts. Who hid behind calling them pest so their deliberate are vile cruelty would not be the focus over many decades. The days when hunters are taken as having an important view are over. Society is not interested in what they have to say as they care more about what happens to our wildlife. We do not need people roaming London shooting animals and it should be obvious why that is also a danger to people.
