How the junk in my garage saved me. I get a lot of grief from - TopicsExpress

How the junk in my garage saved me. I get a lot of grief from family and others over the boxes and crates that fill our garage. But yesterday, they saved me from a nasty fall. I was changing a fluorescent fixture in the garage. The garage door was half open, to give me light as well as access to the fixture. At one point, the old fixture hung by one screw. I gave it a tug, but the screw was barely embedded in the ceiling drywall and came away at a touch, throwing me from the 5 rung of a six foot ladder. I landed on my back on a stuck of my junk boxes. They seemed to hold my weight and I felt secure. But as soon as I moved, they collapsed, dropping me onto an adjacent stack of boxes, which crushed, leaving me in a standing position and feeling pretty fortune. But I was off balance, and fell on my side onto a third tier of boxes, which slowly collapsed, rolling me gently out from under the door of my garage, in full view of the neighbors. Unhurt, I finished the job, though this morning, I had a deep ugly bruise on my right side and possibly a slightly bruised rib. Nonetheless, so much for reforming my sloppy habits. My junk may have saved me from serious injury. Sorry, no video available.
