How to Get Rid of Oil Stains on a Concrete Driveway Though it isn’t uncommon for vehicles to occasionally drip oil onto the driveway, it can be irritating when it comes to dealing with the stain. Oil stains are some of the most stubborn stains as it clings to surfaces making it difficult to remove. In the interest of having a clean driveway, this unsightly stain takes a little time to remove, but the end result will make it all worthwhile. Instructions 1 Crumple up newspapers and scrub the stain to remove as much oil as possible. If the oil stain is fresh, lay the newspapers on top of it to absorb as much as possible. Wear gloves to avoid getting oil on your skin. Discard the newspapers in a loosely tied bag and keep it in a well ventilated area away from your homes as the fumes may lead to a potential fire hazard. 2 Cover the stain with sawdust or kitty litter and leave it covered for 24 hours. 3 Sweep away the absorbent material with a broom and discard it in the same fashion as the newspapers. 4 Sprinkle powdered laundry detergent over the stain. 5 Pour hot water over the area and scrub the detergent into the stain with a wire brush or coarse-bristled push broom. 6 Rinse the area with water and allow it to air dry. 7 Inspect the area and repeat the process until the stain is gone if necessary.
