Huge day on Keppel and Im absolutely exhausted. Trekked 20km at minimum and that bloody island is full of peaks. Made it to Wreck Beach via Svensdens and after a lap of Wreck decided to try and make it to the lighthouse. I knew I was cutting it fine with time but I remembered reading somewhere that the trail to the lighthouse was an easy grade. Well I should have actually CHECKED the map.... Because it was far from easy - is was literally straight up from the beach to the second highest peak - rated a 10/10 difficulty. But I was determined to get to the lighthouse. At 2pm and approx 500m from the lighthouse, my phone rang out of battery. @&%}!!! I knew it had taken me much longer to get to where I was than predicted and I was trying to calculate how long it was going to take me to get back to the other side of the island for the boat home. PanIc started to set in because my calculation estimated 2 hrs to get back to the boat and I only had 1 3/4hrs of time. £^$@!!! The map said it was a 2 1/2 hr trip... £%*$!!!! With no time and no way of telling the time, I raced as fast and hard as I could back for the boat. There was lots of swearing and heaving my hurts out as I climbed up the steep hills as fast as I could. Finally made it back to the beach and no ferry! $&%*!!!! Trudged up the beach to find someone with a watch and was informed that it was 3:20pm. The boat doesnt depart to 3:45pm. I made it... Actually I smashed it. The return journey took me only 1 1/3 hrs! Needless to say, I collapsed in a heap on the sand and waited to the boat with a huge smile on my face. I am buggered now!
