Hundreds of Gujaratis missing in Uttarakhand. AHMEDABAD/SURAT/RAJKOT/PALANPUR: Anywhere between 300 to 500 tourists from Gujarat are missing in the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand district of Uttar Pradesh even as anxious relatives and authorities are making frantic attempts to contact them. State government officials said at least 1,800 from the state had gone to Kedarnasth and other pilgrimage places in the hill state through private tour operators. However, there is no figure of tourists who went by trains or on their own. State relief commissioner Punamchand Parmar said that so far communication has been established with close to 1,500 people. However, they did not have the number of tourists from the state who are missing. "We are still trying to assess the exact number of Gujaratis in the affected areas. Those who were in Kedarnath and Gaurikund during the cloud burst are in danger but those in other areas are expected to safe," he said. The fate of 150 persons from Surat city and district remains uncertain as no contact has been established with them. Of these, 38 were in Kedarnath when the cloud burst struck on Monday. As many as 180 people from Saurashtra region who went for the char dham yatra are also untraceable. Of these nearly 94 are are from Bhavnagar. "After Sunday night, we have lost all contact with my parents and two other family members," said Shailesh Raval, a contractor in Surendranagar. At least 12 people from Mehsana district including eight from Kundal village and four from Hitachi company are also missing, official said.TOI
