Hundreds of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) employees under the banner of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) today held protest demonstrations here in Lal Chowk Srinagar. Urban Local Bodies (ULB) employees’ forum president Manzoor Ahmad Pampori while referring Order No 185-HUD of 2013 said the order is against employees and should be revoked immediately. Meanwhile, the Urban Local Bodies Employees Association today held a protest at Press Colony here which was led by President Abdul Majeed Wani. “However, when the employees tried to march towards Lal Chowk, police swung into action and foiled the march,” official sources told. They said that Police used lathi charge to disperse the agitating employees as a result of which at least 14 employees received injuries. The ULB employees demanded that the government order should be revoked forthwith. Besides, they demand implementation of service rules, rationalization of staff pattern in these institutions, conduct of DPC-seniority of various service cadres, regularization of daily wagers- consolidated employees having more than 15 years in the department, release of 6th Pay Commission and time-bound settlement of pension. The employees also demand release of wages, reorganization, implementation of recruitment rules, payment of sixth pay commission arrears, implementation of transfer policy and holding departmental promotion committees on divisional levels. “The genuine grievances of the employees are being sabotaged by some blue-eyed officials and officers although they are involved in brazen irregularities,” Pampori added. EJAC President, Abdul Qayoom Wani who was also detained by police and lodged in Police Station Kothibagh while talking said it is very tragic that thousands of employees of different departments which include ULB, SSA and PHE are without salaries from last six months. He also assured the ULB employees of all possible help in fulfillment of their demands. “We are all one, be it ULB employees or the others. We ask the government to fulfill our demands otherwise it will have to face the consequences”, he said. He said that government had made a sub-committee to review the demands in which the committee has passed 20 recommendations. One anti-ULB employees was accepted and remaining 19 were rejected by the government. “If the employees of various departments will not get salaries ahead of Eid or the pending demands not met at earliest, EJAC will formulate a new programme which will be very tough for state government”, he added.
