I accidentally came across this video, and I saw my close friend, Yang Xu, who serves as the concertmaster in Beijing. We were housemates during our studies at Oberlin Conservatory. I remember the many things we did together, including driving around to places, playing music, attending gatherings, eating good food that he cooked, etc. Oh yes, he is a good cook and likes to improvise in the kitchen. In fact, I was often impressed with the dish he could come up with from the whatever food he found in the fridge. Just do whatever you wanna to do. The food will be ready shortly. - was his way of shooing me away from the kitchen area as he wanted to operate in there alone :) He also tried to teach me how to play the violin. I remember clearly how he spent much time to teach me how bow properly. A very talented person, Xu Yang is always passionate with whatever he does. Now he is at The Metropolitan Opera, New York. One day we should invite him to come to Indonesia, right? It would be really nice if he could give concerts and masterclasses here. And oh yes, he is here in MKI! NB: Yundi Lis performance is rock-solid.
