I also have some food for thought for the Jewish collection on my page... Just in time for Hanuka... The Feast of Lights. Celebrating a successful REVOLT of the Jews against the Seleucid Greeks. Why? The King wanted to force the Greek religion on Judea. The Greeks actually had the ARMED FORCES install an idol in the Temple in Jerusalem and even appointed Jewish apostate priests to sacrifice swine to the Greek god in the courts of Solomon. I could imagine there were Jews who didnt want to upset the status quo. The Greek Army went through the country and had no opposition because the populace was stunned and cowed. What saved them? A man named Mattathias. Who refused to allow this injustice to happen. He actually killed the man who stepped up to slaughter the swine in his place. Im sure there would be people calling him an animal and barbaric for the way showed his outrage to what was happening to his people. They probably had major news outlets of the day showing coverage of his act of outrage. But what did happen? He became a symbol and brought about the recapturing of the Temple. Hanuka means dedication. A lot of people are dedicated to social justice and in Ferguson most of those people are peaceful but think before you judge all of the people who are acting out. Im not justifying the rioting, especially the people using it to just cause mayhem and be thiefs but understand that an enraged people act out when they are taken to their tipping point.
