I am comforted that whatever name is chosen for the new national stadium, it can always be changed when the truth is revealed about certain personalities. Name changes in Russia have often been associated with politics and the cult of personality that was a way of condemning people during communism. Stalingrad and Leningrad were named after Stalin and Lenin of course. But then Stalin fell out of favor and the rationale was to return to the classic name after the Volga (and ditto with St. Petersburg). Thats actually not so strange and Russia isnt the only place that happens. In Vietnam after the fall of the South, Saigon became Ho Chi Minh City. In Washington DC, we had an airport named after our first President (George Washington, thus Washington National Airport). Republican Congressman George Allen led the effort to strip the airport of George Washingtons name and now its Ronald Reagan National Airport
