I am confused. Are schools suppose to be teaching religion or teaching science, history, math, etc.? I always thought that religion was suppose to be taught in the churchs and Sunday schools and at home and the rest of a kids knowledge was taught by the school. In Sunday School during High School years, I remember one year that we were taught about world religions...besides the Catholic faith. Personally I found that to be a wonderful exposure to the world around us. I would not mind it if schools offered an elective of the same category. Knowledge of other faiths helps us deal with others more fairly. To understand where they are coming from. I am Roman Catholic and I will die Roman Catholic even though I do not hold all the ideas as solidly as some. I have also made friends around the world not of the Catholic faith and I would no more dishonor their beliefs then my own. My years of living abroad have taught me a lot about people and how I can accept people who look at the world differently than I do and still respect them. But those who refuse to give me the same respect I will not extend the same to them. I will be polite and try to hold no bad will but to be treated fairly you must be willing to treat others fairly. But schools are for learning and not religious indoctrination. THAT is the job of the Church.
