I am honored and humbled to be Nebraskas Senator-elect. I commit to be about the big challenges before us—for we do not have time now to be distracted by the small issues. I commit to focus on our duties for the long-term, rather than being obsessed with short-term popularity. And I commit to celebrate the enduring American beliefs that unite us, more than the policy debates that sometimes temporarily divide us. For at my house, we are grateful for America’s past, and we pledge to be optimistic about our shared future. I am so grateful to Nebraskans—not for the outcome of this one passing election, but for repeatedly telling us that you want politicians in Washington who know that we cannot afford to just trim around the edges.
