I am leaving the NAACP because I think they are just getting too - TopicsExpress

I am leaving the NAACP because I think they are just getting too extreme and political, I was proud to be in an organization that has spent over one hundred years working for freedom, for equality, and for protection (although those three things can overlap and therefore cancel each other out sometimes- but that is a much deeper politically philosophical discussion) it seems like they now are focusing on things that are not as important as the major issues, and they just try to get into the headlines- they wanted to violate the Constitution in order to imprison a man who had no evidence of guilt and who was already found not guilty- violating the double jeopardy clause, it’s a double standard, and its going too far, it’s a shame that the organizations that stand up/ stood up for the rights of the poor, the minority groups, the disenfranchised (NAACP, AARP, ACLU, Amnesty International, PETA) have become so extreme, politically motivated, attention baiting, over the top, and out of touch with how most people view the world. Hopefully a fair and impartial organization will be created that better represented the values of the NAACP when it was founded in 1910, and other groups that defend people that have historically been disenfranchised. The way I feel about the Zimmerman trial: let me put it this way- if it was a white teenager that tried to beat to death a Black Neighborhood watch man after the Black man had called the police and became a little too overzealous by following the white teen and then shooting him in self defense, I would hope the Black man would be barred from the neighborhood watch but not be arrested for protecting himself from getting his face bashed in on the concrete and possibly killed with his own gun, I would side with the black neighborhood watch man, and I think the NAACP would too, the difference is I side with the person based on their actions, not based on what their skin color is/ was. I think that if George Zimmerman was black and Trayvon Martin was white the NAACP would be outraged that a black man was on trial for his life for self defense, and outraged at how the media showed pictures of a 12 year old white kid who was killed by a black ex con when really Martin was 17 and Zimmerman was a black man who tried to serve his community and called the police and his screams of pain and terror were heard around the world from 911 phone calls and still this hypothetically black man was arrested for murder. yes Zimmerman was an idiot, yes he was overzealous, yes he violated the rules of the neighborhood watch, but never once did I think it was acceptable to beat someone to death just for following you, and I have followed before, look at the two people, how thin, young, and agile Martin was, he could easily just ran away from the fat stupid innocent Zimmerman. I am tired of people and their hypocrisy, there are so many other black people in prison for minor charges or just for wrongful imprisonment, and there are so many people in this country that are racist against black people, I think they took back the number one most hated racial group after the Arabs fell from the number one position they held since 2001. Black people have a much harder time getting hired, much easier time getting arrested and profiled, they are constantly stereotyped and marginalized, they have harder time getting loans from the bank, and all of this is regardless of their credit rating or resume credentials- they have actually done studies where people with higher credentials but Black sounding names (like Trayvon or Laquisha or Jamal- even as I write this spell check is going nuts because they are supposedly not real names- not like Trevor, Lindsay, or Jason- spell check has no problem with those names) were much less likely to get hired or receive loans or to be found innocent in court than people with more traditional names, and on interviews everything being equal, a white or Asian person was far more likely to get hired than a Black or Hispanic person. Anyway, my point is that these are big issues and instead the NAACP is pittering away opportunities to tackle these true inequalities and injustices, and focusing on blaming a white/ Mexican whatever he was, guy and play the victim role, when everyone knows that if the races were reversed the NAACP would be all over defending Zimmerman
