I am not knocking running. I ran 1.5 miles today actually after I warmed up and did a moderate/volume weight workout, consisting of only back squats and Single Leg RDLs. (Its my deload week) I was enjoying a nature walk, walking on a trail, it was nice... so I thought why not. So I took off in what was probably a 7m mile pace. Nothing to get a blue ribbon over, but enough to enjoy myself. Jesus does not hate me for this. However, running is something I seldom do--Cartwheels are probably in my routine more frequently than running. It is not optimum or functional to my goals. My goals are, generally, move better (reduce knee pain & shoulder stability) and look better (improve body composition). I can pretty much attain these goals by nutrition alone, with correctional exercise, but I have an athletic background, so I like workouts that challenge me, however arent completely arbitrary. If your goal is to look better and feel better, you do not have to get there by running. Is running wrong, absolutely not. Is it optimum? Unless you are competing in the sport of running, or you honestly love it and its romantic for you--than theres a better way. Change is the only constant in life, and it speaks true in fitness as well. After 20 years of consistent-ish running, I’m calling it quits. - See more at: deansomerset/ive-given-running/#sthash.ZBm5HdaZ.dpuf
