I am seeing a lot of posts about the use of Happy Christmas, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, etc etc. Again. Just like last year (only earlier). Wishing someone a Merry Christmas is neither politically incorrect nor is claiming back Christmas for Christ. Its simply what everyone has said for centuries. Personally I tend to write Merry Yuletide in my cards, since I am celebrating midwinter and the turn of the year rather than the Mithraic-inspired Christ-child myth - but its not an attack on Christmas :-) As for Happy Holidays ... in my view its an empty, vapid and insipid phrase with no meaning at all, but it isnt an attack on Christmas either. Do we need to go through this right-wing,fundamentalist paranoia *every* year?
