I am seriously about to have a come apart about the Latte - TopicsExpress

I am seriously about to have a come apart about the Latte Salute....Really, people? There is so much going on in the world and this is what I am reading about? Politically, I was not a fan of President Bush; however, he was the President and as such he deserved the respect of the people, even me. Did he provide moments of hilarity, yep. Did he do things and say things that I did not agree with? OMG!!! YES! Do I honestly believe that he became President to destroy the country? No. Did he come into office with an agenda to destroy the economy, get us into a war, purposefully stand by and let terrorists attack so he could go to war in the Middle East? NO, NO and NO! It is disrespectful for anyone to insinuate that this was his intent. And yet, every move President Obama makes this is what I am hearing and seeing. Not just from the media (it is their job to create controversy for the love of Mike)...but from people I know and love! I am an American and I do not agree with any POTUS being shown the amount of disrespect President Obama has been shown. United we stand. Divided we fall. And now since President Obama flubbed a salute, he hates the military, he hates Marines, he doesnt care about America. (Keep in mind there are pictures of other recent Presidents doing this as well) So heres some history on the Commander in Chief and the salute. The President of the United States is a civilian. He is not a member of the US Military and is therefore not entitled to salute. The military salute is a privilege earned by honorable service in the military. It is also a privilege that can be taken away. Military prisoners are stripped of the privilege of saluting. While the President is Constitutionally the Commander in Chief, he is not a member of the military. One of the core principles of our country is our military is under civilian control. The President is that civilian authority over the military as is the Secretary of Defense and the Secretaries of the branches of the armed services. Did you know that there’s no regulation that stipulates presidents must salute the troops. In fact, for the first 192 years of our republic, it didn’t happen. None of the first 38 commanders in chief did it. And some of those men had some serious military experience. Eisenhower? Grant? Teddy Roosevelt was a war hero, as was Kennedy. Surely they felt compelled to cut a perfect knife-handed salute when passing a uniform service member? Wrong. It was literally something that Ronald Reagan made up one day....
