I am so excited that everyone has been buzzing about the new Tethering ordinance in Davidson County that is being sponsored by Councilwoman Karen Bennett! I am really glad to see how many people are supporting it. I sat down with Mrs. Bennett a few years back and helped draft this ordinance along with State Representative Janis Sontany, Billy Biggs and Phran Galante. We are so happy that the time is finally right and this Bill has been presented to Metro Council for approval. Davidson County has been in desperate need of a stronger tethering ordinance for a very long time. I know many of you would like to see an even stronger ordinance in place and many of you have made suggestions on what you would like to see added. Please understand, the goal is to get the ordinance passed. The more stipulations we put in it, and the stricter we make it, the less chance we have of actually getting it passed. We drafted an ordinance that would give some relief to tethered dogs, and one we felt could actually get passed. Once this ordinance is in place, we can go back and ask for revisions and improve and strengthen what we have. If we ask for too much now and they vote No, then we lose everything. If we get this ordinance in place now and then go ask for more later and they vote No, then we lose nothing. Baby steps! The fact that the Tennessean ran this ordinance as the front page, lead story yesterday, shows that things are changing. Humane legislation is becoming more popular and people want to see dog owners be more responsible for the care of their animals. Now we have to UNITE and show Metro Council that WE ALL want to see this ordinance pass. I had our Graphic Designers, Visionary Design Group, create a shirt specifically for this ordinance. We are asking everyone to purchase a shirt to show their support in getting this ordinance passed. The shirts say No more Chained Dogs in Davidson County, TN. We want ALL dog lovers in Nashville to unite and support this ordinance because its what is best for the dogs. Councilwoman Karen Bennett would like everyone to wear their shirts to the Metro Council meeting when we have the 3rd reading of this bill. Currently that will be on February 17th, but that can change if she has to make any amendments to the bill. I will keep everyone posted on the exact date. The goal is to have AT LEAST 50 people in the audience wearing our shirts to show how many of us support the bill and want to see it passed. Of course, it would be fantastic if we can get more than 50 of us to show up to this meeting! I will be there to answer any questions and get everyone organized. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. You can reach me at 916-765-1998 Huge thanks to Councilwoman Karen Willis Bennett for taking on the issue of chained dogs along with DDB Nashville. Thank you to Visionary Design Group, for designing this shirt. Thank you to Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More of Nashville, for making the shirts for us. TOGETHER, we are bringing change to this city. We are giving Freedom to these dogs! We wont stop here. This is just the start of all the change to come..... Spread the word! This is where you can purchase your shirt. Lets show up in force and be the largest group ever to attend a Metro Council meeting in support of a new ordinance!
