I am so full right now. I spent the last three and a half hours with artists, activists, and thinkers from around St. Louis and the country. We shared skill sets, techniques, talked, shared stories, listened, and devised a couple of performance pieces that aimed to dissect issues of injustice. I am so thrilled to be connecting with other people in this community and I am excited to see how we can collectively find ways to use our skills to bring about real change. I have done a good bit of devising work, usually centered around a long period of ensemble/trust building. While I think those things are crucial to the process, it was beautiful to see thirty something strangers putting their bodies and voices out there to create something that brought about a meaningful dialogue. My group chose to end our performance with a song. Ill leave you with the words: We who believe in justice will not rest until it comes. I am so thankful. And trying to be hopeful.
