I am so happy to share this, I really wasnt sure if Houdini would make it when I found him, now however thanks to the love and support of many people, he is well on the road to recovery! :D He mighntt look the best at the moment, but his injuries were quite severe, and for all he has lost a leg, he will now live a life of love, fun and comfort :) I need to thank some people, from myself and on behalf of Houdini! :) Firstly is Sybille Good, who contacted me on the Kilimanjaro Animal Rescue page as she was worried about a dog she had see, that dog was Houdini! Next is Susanne Stampe who saw Houdinis story and offered to pay for his X rays at the vet in Arusha. When I arrived at the vet by chance Genevieve Simon was there, and offered to pay for Houdinis operation! I couldnt hardly believe it........... I also need to thank Emmanuel Chao, for the night I finally found Houdini, I called Ema who drove us 20km to Uchira whilst I held Houdini in the boot! Finally I have to thank Sandra and Jens at Mbwa Wa Africa Animal Rescue in Arusha....... Sandra met me and took me to the vet as I had no idea how to get there, and is currently taking care of Houdini also, until I can get back through to pick him up........ Thank you to everyone, from me and Houdini! He wouldnt be with us without all of your love and support! I would love to find a home with a loving family for Houdini somewhere in Tanzania, so if you think you might be that home, please get in touch :) If not Houdini will live with me and the other pups in Uchira no doubt, Which means he will be in our sponsorship/adoption program, so if your taken with Houdini or any of our other pups or dogs, please do get in touch, or visit v2vtanzania.org/kilimanjaro-animal-rescue/ Below is what Sandra posted from Mbwa wa Africa earlier today about Houdinis condition and how he is settling in with the other rescue dogs she has :) Much love from Tanzania everyone :) xx Houdini.... Two days ago, when I went with Gypsy to the vet clinic, we teamed up with John St Julien from Kilimanjaro Animal Rescue and his limping friend Houdini. At this point, I just have say again, how happy I am, that John started KAR, we can work together and consult and help each other and it is absolutely fantastic to know we can always reach out to them - LOVE IT!!!!! Now back to Houdini Unfortunately his injuries were even worse than Gypsys, the top of his femur was shattered beyond recognizability and the leg couldnt be saved... On top of that he had started to used his other hint leg - which is badly infected - in a way, that was probably more comfortable for him, but would ruin his joints in a short while. Anyway, there was a chance he could live a happy life after all - that means amputation - and John wouldnt take that away from him. There were so many lucky circumstances! First the operation could be done the same day and Genevieve Simon, a long term friend and supporter from Mbwa wa Africa, happened to be there as well and spontaneously offered to pay for the operation!! Thanks so, so much Gen, you are a life saver!! We also want to thank Susanne Stampe, who volunteered to cover the costs for the x-rays! You two are amazing! The amputation went well, his other foot was put in a plaster to get his tendons used to the right position again, he spent two nights at the clinic and today I took him here to MWA, because we are closer to the clinic for check ups and further treatments and have already some experience with amputees. So now the best part: he is doing very well! He can already walk - even run around on his three legs, welcomed some visitors in his kennel , little male nurse Hercule thoroughly investigated his wound and was pleased and in Gypsy and Moquwai he has some devoted female admirers For now, everything needs to heal nicely and than this super friendly dog needs to find an awesome home!
