I am surprised at the lack of posts, etc. commemorating President - TopicsExpress

I am surprised at the lack of posts, etc. commemorating President Kennedys life, and death 50 yrs ago today. I decided to take the day off and just watched the special ceremony in Dallas. It was very thoughtful. I have to admit that part of decision to do so was due to just feeling nostalgic of that time, day. I was in 3rd grade and what I mostly remember is being sent home. When I got home, I found my mother in front of the television set, crying. She didnt really notice that I was home early. I asked her why she was crying and she stopped and told me President Kennedy had been killed. My first thought was that it was strange seeing her cry, especially for the president of the United States, since she was born in Mexico. I knew my father would be devastated once he learned of the tragedy, but I never thought that it would mean so much to my mother. Well, at some point I asked her about it. She was very patient with me and explained what death, the death of a president, means to people. Of course I felt stupid then, but then I was only 8 years of age. At any rate, I felt compelled to stay home today.
