I applaud Gina Prince-Bythewood for fighting to keep positive black images, black lifestyles, black love - up front and center. If you havent seen Beyond The Lights, you should. When is the last time you saw a great LOVE story? Not a comedic love story, where youre laughing every few seconds, or a film with an ensemble cast that doesnt give you time to journey with the characters, feel them, embody them, experience...them. Ill name a couple. (Lady Sings the Blues, Black Orpheus, Brown Sugar, Love Jones, Love & Basketball , Julia?) uh...uh...hmmm, lemme think...uh, Ill get back with yall. Either there are a precious few, or....exactly. Lets continue to lift our community. Its a herculean job, because so many of us dont know we need lifting.
