I began today 10,000 feet in the air, at the caldera of a volcano, - TopicsExpress

I began today 10,000 feet in the air, at the caldera of a volcano, staring seven miles across an alien landscape. I then descended to drive around the other side, on a single lane highway that at times grew so narrow only one vehicle could move through. I saw nearly as many waterfalls as I did indescribably unique people, including one who called himself the Coconut Billionaire, who advised me that you cant eat paper or an electronic transfer, but you can have all the fruit you want. He made good on this by giving my party a passel of oranges. At the end of the road was a black sand beach engulfed by jungle, perhaps the most remote place in the United States, where waves crashed forty feet high against knife sharp rocks. On the way home it rained, turning the familiar winding route into a mist shrouded fairy tale by way of Werner Herzog. None of this even includes the silversword plants which grow in only one spot on Earth, looking down upon the clouds, or eating ice cream from a coconut shell provided under the stipulation you stay and chat. Lessons learned today: Hawaiian people love to give you things free, or at least with a non-cash price, and 32 miles is a hell of a lot longer when its not more or less straight.
