I called the city Waste Management office today to discuss chicken poop (Im livin the dream, yo) and the lovely lady I spoke to asked me if I have a hen that lays blue eggs. I replied that I do. As it turns out, she volunteers for the Boys & Girls club. During a winter fund-raiser, teens were going door-to-door asking for residents to either donate an egg or buy one for $2. I donated two of Tuppers lovely blue eggs which each sold for $20!!! I guess the teens (and the buyers) got such a kick out of it, they couldnt help share the story with everyone. It comes up again & again that urban hens can be a conduit for community-building and this story just proves it.
