I came into work early this morning. On the road before daylight and I smiled the whole way! Its morning like this that make me think of my Pop (Barnett Gilley). I spent many cool fall mornings with him. Every school bus I passed was a reminder of the times we shared. Every old man with red suspenders, every PB&J sandwich I eat! They all flood me with such great memories. Im so glad to have those to share with my sons especially one day when Will (William Barnett) asks about his name. I wrote this little poem several years ago and never shared it. Today just seemed right. 14 years and I still miss and love you! When yellow school buses pass me by, thats when I miss you most The smell of hot leather, chocolate candy and aftershave When I see red suspenders over flannel shirts, hear a band marching, or a whisper at church, thats when I miss you most The touch of piano keys, the snore of my dad, taste of moonpies and fall When I remember your laugh or smile, the calming of your voice they dont compare to the hurt of knowing my child will miss you most.
