I come up with my funniest stuff when I go to bed, especially when I have the racing mind. I tell myself I will write it when I get up and post it here. Instead, I will usually forget what the hell it was about and then spend the day trying to remember what it was. I know what youre going to suggest. Im not only psychic (lie), but I can read minds (another lie). You were going to suggest I write it down as it comes to me. To have a notebook on the bedside table. If you thought this, then you know me not. It is a good idea. A most excellent one even. For others, but not me. Example; Say I come up with a story idea of how I was climbing the fence out back, slipped and ended up with my sack caught in the top of the fence. Neighbors see, cops come, then fire department, Jaws of Life, local news, then an appearance on Good Morning America. I eventually become a one testicle advocate for sack safe fences. I could flesh (no pun intended) this out and make a humorous story. I grab the notebook, flip on the little book light and start writing this idea down. Finished, I turn the light out and put the notebook back on the table. Whoa! Five minutes later I either think of something else to add or delete. Light goes back on and I get to jotting the addition or deletion down. Satisfied (a false sense of satisfaction as you shall see) I turn the light off and try to sleep. Three minutes later the light is switched on again and I write a totally new story idea down or do some more addition or subtraction to the first one. This would continue until I either got up to write the damn story or took the cursed notebook outside and burn it. I would pray the neighbors would see me burning it and ask me what I was doing. With a deadpan face I would say matter of factly, Trying to get rid of evidence of the murder. Then, put my finger up to my lips and go shhhhhhhh. As you can see, I need to find another solution to remembering my story ideas.
