I couldnt disagree more. Okay, maybe thats an exaggeration...but Ive seen this article floating around and have read it through a couple times. Something about it just makes me uncomfortable. There are a lot of different conversations going on in this article that are not entirely connected - social medias influence on marriage, premarital counselings influence on marriage, perceived humility/pride in posting engagement pictures, etc. Yes, we should definitely be more concerned about the marriage that follows than the engagement period. HOWEVER that doesnt mean that the time of engagement shouldnt be celebrated and exciting. It bothers me that the main issue this author has is with wedding paraphernalia on social media. The fact that your parents dont have pictures of their newly engaged faces all over Facebook is because its not a part of their generation. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with having a hidden photographer to take pictures of your big moment, just as its perfectly normal to have someone take pictures during your daughters first birthday party or your sons high school graduation. Its a turning point in your life. For some people, yes, posting pictures of the ring and whatnot is just a way to brag about their fabulous lives. But for people like me, its a way to quickly share an exciting new development in our lives with the people we love. Honestly, this post made me feel like I was doing something wrong by being excited about my wedding and posting pictures of my engagement on social media...and thats really not fair. Its not anyones place to judge a persons intentions by posting something on Facebook. Also, what in the world is wrong with a Tiffanys ring and a guy wearing J.Crew? Really?
